Skiing In Gulmarg
The charismatic Gulmarg is a paradise for skiing lovers. It is indeed a very famous skiing destination, nestled in the PirPanjal range of Jammu and Kashmir. This place is fantastic for amateur and professional skiers. Gulmarg holds numerous skiing operators and institutes for skiing lovers. This winter sport here is carried out on the slopes of Apharwat peak. Imbued with snow-clad mountains this place is perfect for skiing.
Timing For The Skiing
The activity arena is open from 9 am to 7 pm. The perfect time for this thrilling activity is from December to March. To reach the skiing spots one has to take the Gondola that takes the travelers to a good height of almost 4000m above the sea level. The Gondola operates all seven days a week throughout the year. The timings are from 10 am to 5 pm, but the timing may vary depending on the weather. So it is advised to confirm the time one day before and then reach the spot accordingly. Carry ski boots, bindings, poles, helmets, gloves and ski suite equipment. One can rent them on the spot.
The mountain is divided into 2 phases and one can reach it by gondola-
Phase I - It starts from Gulmarg- which stands at a height of 2600m to Kungdori mountain – standing at a height of 3747m. On reaching here one can ski back to the base. This Phase 1 is ideal for beginners for Gulmarg skiing. The slopes here are wide and quite easy. One can enjoy skiing here all through the day and even in the nighttime.
Phase II - It starts from Kungdori mountain to the Apharwat peak located at a height of 4200m.
On reaching one can ski down from there. The difficulty level of PhaseII is higher than Phase I. For an ultimate thrill, one can head to the Shark Fin which is the perfect place for powder skiing and is situated at the back of the majestic Mount Apharwat. It is indeed a favoured slope for expert skiers.
